Princess awards trophy to Spelling Bee winner

HER ROYAL HIGHNESS Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn recently presented a royal-sponsored trophy to the winner of the 18th NJ National Spelling Bee Championship, high-school student Natchalai Viboonnantakit from Bangkok’s Triam Udom Suksa School.

In addition to the trophy, the 2015 “Champ of the Year” also received an all-expenses-paid English scholarship to study in the United States. The student’s adviser was also awarded a scholarship to study there.
The Princess granted an audience to NJ Magazine editor Pimpimol Kongkreingkrai and Anne Lee Seshadri, cultural and educational officer at the US Embassy, to officially present the trophy on May 4 at Chitralada Royal Villa’s Dusidalai Hall.
NJ Magazine, part of Nation Multimedia Group, recognises the importance of promoting and developing the use of English among Thai youth. It has worked continuously to develop the potential and preparedness of youngsters as the country has become part of the Asean Economic Community. 
The royally-endorsed NJ National Spelling Bee Championship, conducted in close collaboration with various |public and private agencies and |academic institutions nationwide, |has grown to become one of the |group’s flagship events. 
The 18th NJ National Spelling Bee Championship grand final was held on December 12.
One hundred upper high school students – 25 from each of the country’s four regions – competed for top honours at the winner-takes-all glittering event. 
It was organised at John XXIII Conference Centre Hall of Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi campus. 
Planning is under way for the 19th NJ National Spelling Bee Championship, with the organisers aiming to extend the reach of the competition to even more students this year.
