Seven youngsters charged with murdering bread-delivery man

Public prosecutors have indicted six young men and a young female on three charges relating to the death of disabled bread-delivery man Somkiat Srijan in Bangkok’s Soi Chokchai 4 in May.

All seven have been charged with murder and carrying weapons in public without a sound reason.
Four of them have also been charge with intruding on another person’s residence to commit assault with a weapon, said Somnuek Siangkong, spokesman of the attorney-general, at a press conference on Monday.
Somnuek said the lawsuit against the suspects would be filed in a court on Wednesday ahead of their detention period expiring.
Prosecutors believe there is not enough evidence to support levelling a premeditated murder charge against the suspects, Somneuk said. That charge carries a penalty of 15-20 years in jail or the death sentence.
He said the fatal attack appeared to be unplanned.
However prosecutors didn’t rule out the possibility the victim’s family could file that charge, said Prayuth Phetkhun, Office of the Attorney-General deputy spokesman. He said the family could either be a co-plaintiff and file the premeditated murder charge with a court or they could independently file it.
