School sorry for footpath exam

School sorry for footpath exam

THE director of Bangkok’s Triam Udom Suksa Nomklao School apologised to parents yesterday for an “inappropriate” action in which a schoolteacher had students take an examination on a footpath in the sunlight.

The incident was circulated in social media, resulting in criticism with people saying students could be harmed or pass out from heat exhaustion.
School director Jinnapat Piboonwititthamrong said his deputy confirmed the incident related to a science exam for 50 Mathayom 2 students on July 7.
He said the problem stemmed from the large class size, because a classroom could only sit 30 test-takers, so the rest of the class had to take the test outside to minimise the chances of students copying answers from each other.
Jinnapat said he would talk tomorrow with the teacher and students about holding the exam again because the uncomfortable and distracting environment could have affected student performances.
He said the teacher had told him the exam was initially going to be held in the cafeteria, but another group of students was sitting an exam there.
When a deputy school director said the conditions for holding the test were inappropriate, the teacher moved them to a sidewalk near the cafeteria.
Jinnapat said he would tell teachers to avoid holding tests in such conditions in the future.
