Immigration Police yesterday announced the arrest of fugitive lawyer Yasuo Tsubaki, 62, who was accused of conspiring in a fraud case in Japan that caused damage worth 12 billion yen (Bt4 billion) in 2007.
As of press time, police were waiting for Japan’s confirmation of the suspect’s identity.
National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda and Immigration Police chief Pol Lt-General Natthorn Phrosunthorn will attend the man’s interrogation this morning before he is sent back to Japan within four days.
In the other case, Transnational Crime Coordination Centre deputy chief Pol Lt-General Suchat Theerasawat told a press conference at the Royal Thai Police office in Bangkok that the Slovakian suspect, Michal Grujbar, 38, was arrested in front of a Koh Samui hotel and initially charged with overstaying his visa.
Police investigators found that the man had allegedly embezzled 282,935 euros (Bt10.9 million) while working as a hospital director in Zlate Moravce City in 2012 and 2013 then fled to Thailand.
A Slovakian court and Interpol had issued arrest warrants for him.
Thai police learned that he had been living in Koh Samui and that his visa had expired, resulting in his arrest earlier this week. Suchat said the suspect admitted to being the person wanted by Interpol.
