Prayut says Article 44 still needed to control the situation
Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said Wednesday evening that he would still need draconian Article 44 of the interim charter to ensure that the political situation would remain peaceful until the next government is formed.
He said there are still some dissatisfied people that try to rock the boat so he will still need Article 44 as a tool to deal with them.
“There are those who remain dissatisfied with this state of peacefulness, who persist on damaging the country and even our highest institution, all for their own personal gain, through the use of online media and information sent from abroad,” Prayut said in his televised speech.
The charter draft’s provision allowed the National Council for Peace and Order to have full power as in the interim charter until the next government is formed.
