Thai pupils strike gold in international maths competition

Thai students pocketed 71 awards, or 143 medals, in the Thailand International Mathematics Competition 2016 held in Chiang Mai from August 15, Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) secretary-general Karun Sakulpradit revealed Friday.

Primary pupil Natchanont Sonut from Nakhon Pathom's Suteetorn School, and lower secondary students Jirayut Jinapong of Srinakharinwirot University's Patumwan Demonstration School and Panisa Tangngamsakul of Mater Dei School, as well as the Thailand A and B teams, also earned full scores in their categories.
Karun said Obec sent 48 Thai students in teams of four to compete with 1,200 peers of Key Stage II (Upper Primary Level)  and Key Stage III (Lower Secondary Level) from 29 countries including Australia, China, India, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Netherlands.
