Thai pupils strike gold in international mathematics competition

THAI students pocketed 71 awards, or 143 medals, in the Thailand International Mathematics Competition held in Chiang Mai from August 15, Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) secretary-general Karun Sakulpradit said yesterday.

Primary pupil Natchanont Sonut from Nakhon Pathom’s Suteetorn School, and lower secondary students Jirayut Jinapong of Srinakharinwirot University’s Patumwan Demonstration School and Panisa Tang-ngamsakul of Mater Dei School, as well as the Thailand A and B teams, also earned full scores in their categories.
Karun said Obec sent 48 students in teams of four to compete with 1,200 peers of Key Stage II (Upper Primary Level) and Key Stage III (Lower Secondary Level) from 29 countries including Australia, China, India, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Netherlands.
Gold medallists in the primary-level individual category were Wiphu Kijsamret and Natchanont Sonut from Nakhon Pathom’s Suteetorn School and Nipat Chandraphromdech of Udon Thani’s Don Bosco School. 
Gold medallists in the lower-secondary-level individual category were Jirayut Jinapong and Nathanon Terdpraisan from Srinakharinwirot University’s Patumwan Demonstration School; Panisa Tang-ngamsakul of Mater Dei School; Paphon Lapet of Kanchanaburi’s Visuttharangsi School; Mattanyu Tang-ngekkee of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School; Natdanai Thampenjit of Bangkok Christian College; and Lapas Premchareon from Princess Chulabhon’s College in Chon Buri. 
Gold medallists in the primary-level team category were Thailand B (Nipat Chandraphromdech of Udon Thani’s Don Bosco School, Poramee Piyakittiya of Anuban Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pajaree Eung-udonpakdee of Ubon Ratchathani Non-Formal Education Office, and Pathorn Ammawat of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Primary School), while the secondary-level team category saw Thailand A, B, C, E, and F win gold medals. 
Thailand A (Natcharee Chotechuthipchaya of Hat Yai Wittayalai School, Jirayut Jinapong of Srinakharinwirot University’s Patumwan Demonstration School, Nirawit Arayapipatkul of Bangkok Christian College, and Panisa Tang-ngamsakul of Mater Dei School), Thailand B (Kobchon Sitthithammachote of Suankularb Wittayalai School in Bangkok, Natnaran Preuti-apakul of Satriwithaya School, Paphon Lapet of Kanchanaburi’s Visuttharangsi School, and Mattanyu Tang-ngekkee of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School ), and Thailand F (Nathanon Terdpraisan from Srinakharinwirot University’s Patumwan Demonstration School, Lapas Premchareon from Princess Chulabhon’s College in Chon Buri, Supakrit Khotchasan of Horwang School and Anpakorn Sirintharasopon of Songkhla’s Saengthong Wittaya School) also won gold, silver and bronze medals for their highest overall scores respectively.
