Surapong adjusts to life behind bars after fight night
Former Information and Communication Technology (ICT) minister Dr Surapong Seubwonglee has adjusted himself to the life behind bars after spending his first night inside the Bangkok Remand Prison, the permanent secretary for Justice Minister said Friday.
Charnchao Chaiyanukit, the permanent secretary, said he was informed that Surapong ate well for his first breakfast behind bars and he has started adjusting himself to the imprisonment.
At first Suraponse developed tension and a little bit high blood pressure after he was sent to the prison when he received a medical checkup by a prison doctor.
On Thursday, The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders ruled that Surapong was guilty of changing the multi-billion-baht contract to ease the financial burden of Shin Corp, the parent company of Thaicom Satellite. It held a concession granted by the Thai government for its investment in a number of communication satellites. The court sentenced him to one year in jail.
Charnchao said a committee will decide which zone in the prison Surapong would be assigned to after he spent a week in the general zone in the prison.
