Three Chinese arrested for working as tour guides

Department of Employment officials have arrested three Chinese men who allegedly worked as illegal tour guides at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok yesterday.

A 10-official team led by labour expert official Watchara Isarangkoon Na Ayutthaya was inspecting the airport at around 4pm for foreigners working as tour guides without permission and managed to arrest three Chinese suspects. Wang Zhu, 35, Chen Pro, 41, and Zhen Chen, 44, reportedly confessed to have worked as tour guides in Thailand for nearly two months and said they picked up tourists from the airport to send them to various attractions in exchange for payment.
Watchara said the inspection followed a complaint to police from Thai tour guides that some Chinese nationals had worked as tour guides. He said the officials would continue to inspect target areas for illegal tour guides.
Thai law reserves such jobs for Thais only and guarantees that tour guides be paid at least Bt1,000 per day.
