Large parts of the country inundated by floodwaters

The decision to release 1,790 cubic metres of water per second from the Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat province was exacerbated by heavy downpours and runoff resulting in flooding in several downstream provinces Saturday.

The swelling Chao Phraya River in Angthong province resulted in water of up to 80 centimetres deep flooding 82 homes in Pa Moke district’s Tambon Phong Pheng and Muang district’s Tambon Jampa Lor.
In Ayutthaya’s Muang district, the Chao Phraya River burst its banks and inundated shops at Wat Tha Ka Rong’s riverside market Saturday.
In Lop Buri’s Ban Mi district, farmers in Tambon Phukha said some 1,000 rai (160 hectares) of rice paddies were damaged by a one-metre-deep floodwaters that had inundated the area for three days.
In Pathum Thani province, residents Saturday moved belongings to higher ground after officials’ warned that the Chao Phraya River would rise to 90 centimetres.
