Chinese and Nigerian suspects arrested over credit-card scams

Four Chinese and two Nigerians have been arrested as suspects in two separate credit card-related thefts in Bangkok, Police Economic Crime Suppression Division deputy commander Pol Colonel Papatdech Ketpan said yesterday.

The Chinese men, who are accused of using fake credit cards in city malls, were arrested on Tuesday at a hotel in Bangkok’s Huai Kwang district. They were identified as Huang Kun, 31, Zhao Biaoyi, 33, Yi Weifeng, 37, and Lang Dagong, 28.
Police also seized nine fake credit cards, 22,700 Yuan (Bt113,500) in cash, two skimmer devices and three notebook computers.
On the same day, two Nigerian men – Laouari Hassane Babale and Awaisou Ibrahim, both 38 – were arrested in possession of 215 ATM cards issued by Nigerian banks and Bt34,200 cash.
Police initially nabbed Babale, and seized 16 ATM cards, while he was trying to withdraw cash in the Nana area of Sukhumvit. A subsequent search at his hotel room found his alleged accomplice, Ibrahim, with the remaining cards and cash.
The pair confessed to bringing ATM cards belonging to others to withdraw money in Thailand, Papatdech said.
