Rape suspect on police murder bid charge after siege at Samut Prakan

A man who allegedly broke into an 18-year-old nursing assistant’s apartment in Bangkok’s Prawet district and raped her in the early hours of September 11 is in police custody following a seven-hour stand-off and gunfight with police at a motel in Samut Pr

City police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn, who yesterday observed the interrogation of Thanapol Nilpat, 29, at Prawet Police Station, said he had confessed to breaking and entering and rape.
Thanapol also faced additional charges of attempting to murder a police officer by opening fire on him, illegal possession of a firearm and drugs abuse. He reportedly claimed to be paranoid due to drug use.
Thanapol claimed he saw the teenage victim sleeping in her room with the back door unlocked and went in to take a video clip of her to broadcast live via a smartphone application. When the victim woke up and saw him, he sexually assaulted her before fleeing to Nonthaburi province.
Yesterday afternoon, police took Thanapol back to the nurse’s apartment to re-enact the crime.
On Wednesday, police spotted the suspect on a CCTV camera at Lam Salee Intersection as he hailed a taxi to the motel. Officers then surrounded the motel at about 1am and eventually captured him about 8pm.
