Body-in-freezer eyewitness ‘important part of jigsaw’: police

Bangkok police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn said a key eyewitness who flew in from abroad was an “important piece of the jigsaw” in the investigation into the death of a man whose dismembered body was found in a freezer in Bangkok last month.

Sanit declined to give details about the witness, but said police would gather sufficient evidence before applying for arrest warrants for more charges in the case. He said he would later meet with related parties to exchange information on the case, including details of an autopsy report on victim Charles Edward Ditlefsen and background on the three American suspects.
Herbert Craig La Fon, 63, James Douglas Eger, 63, and Aaron Thomas Gabel, 40, were arrested for passport forgery and other charges during the September 23 raid of a building in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 56 when the dismembered body was discovered inside a commercial freezer.
Phra Khanong Provincial Court yesterday approved a second 12-day detention period for the three suspects. Two of the men are in the Bangkok Remand Prison while La Fon is still receiving treatment for injuries at the Police General Hospital.
