Siriraj Hospital plans museum for King

Monarch’s room at the facility will host his contributions; administrators to ask palace permission for statue

SIRIRAJ HOSPITAL plans to turn HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s room at its facilities into a museum.
The beloved monarch stayed at the hospital in recent years for treatment until he passed away peacefully at the age of 89 last Thursday.
“We have an intention to keep everything His Majesty granted to our hospital and put it all in the museum,” Prof Dr Prasit Watanapa said yesterday in his capacity at Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
He added that the hospital also planned to ask for the Royal Household Bureau’s permission to erect a statue of the King there.
Prasit was speaking after he led faculty staff, medical workers, other staff members and medical students in making merit in dedication to the late King.
His Majesty the King won overwhelming love and respect from his people because he was dedicated to their well-being throughout his seven-decade reign.
Prasit urged all Thais to embrace the King’s guidance and teachings.
“His passing of course brings grief to people. But we can repay His Majesty by heeding his advice and teaching. He would be delighted if after the mourning period, Thais love each other and help Thailand to prosper,” Prasit said.
Staff at Siriraj Hospital will today give alms to 89 monks in remembrance of the revered monarch. They will also observe nine minutes of silence and sing the Royal anthem together.
The hospital will also conduct prayers for the late King between 3pm and 4pm every workday. Members of the public are welcome to join.
