CCTV cameras installed in areas around Sanam Luang to deter crime

Deputy Bangkok Governor Pol Lt-General Amnuay Nimmano yesterday said CCTV cameras had been installed at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang and nearby areas to prevent crimes amid a constant flow of people arriving to pay their respects to HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

One source reported there were 78 CCTV cameras in the vicinity.
Amnuay said anyone witnessing a crime or people taking advantage of others – such as by overcharging fares – could call the city’s coordination centre number 24 hours a day.
The number is 0968-707-242. Meanwhile, Wanlop Suwandee, adviser to Bangkok Governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang, said the city had warned street hawkers not to trade in Sanam Luang and areas around the Grand Palace or risk being arrested.
Wanlop said hawkers posed an inconvenience for the public while some of the goods on sale were inappropriate. He said the city would extend the no-go areas for street vendors.
