Thai police chief urges those who insult monarch to leave kingdom

National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said Wednesday insulting the monarchy would not be tolerated and anyone considering doing so should get out of the country.

"I don’t know why and how people want to insult the monarch. If they don't want to live in Thailand they should go abroad," he told reporters.

The government recently launched a campaign to hunt for lese-majeste fugitives as well as taking steps to stop what it regards as royal insults being committed abroad following the passing of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 13.

“If they don't have money for the air ticket I will pay for it, they can ask me to buy their plane tickets," he added.

He said the police had coordinated with International Criminal Police Organisation or Interpol to take legal action with those who insulted the monarchy abroad.
