Pattani bomb victim buoyed by public |support and offered seat at university

THE family of a high-school student seriously injured in Monday’s bombing in Pattani province has been encouraged by her improving condition and the outpouring of support from the public, the director of her school said yesterday.

The explosion left one woman dead and 18 people injured, some seriously, including Matthayom 6 student Narisara Makchuchit. The bomb blast occurred at a noodle shop in the night market in Pattani’s Muang district.
Narisara was critically injured and had her left leg amputated at the knee at Songkhla Nagarin Hospital in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district.
Bundit Dulyaraksa, director of the Demonstration School at Prince of Songkla University’s Pattani campus, said yesterday that Narisara was out off danger and had regained consciousness.
“I visited her at the ICU room in the hospital on Tuesday morning. Her health status is better than earlier, but she has to be monitored to prevent diseases and infection in her wounds caused by shrapnel, according to the doctor,” the school director said.
He said that the student’s family and other relatives were being encouraged by the support from the public including several hundred well-wishing messages on social media.
“The school has opened a bank account to receive donations from the public to establish a fund to help Narisara and her family. Prince of Songkla University will take responsibility for compensation,” he said. People who are interested in contributing donations are encouraged to contact the Demonstration School directly.
“Narisara, described as a studious and well-mannered schoolgirl, has to unfortunately miss a university exam in this coming weekend. Hence, Prince of Songkla University would like to offer her a seat to study for a higher-education degree as a special case,” he said, adding that she has to drop out for a semester until she leaves the hospital.
Meanwhile, Fourth Army Region commander Lt-General Piyawat Nakwanich, along with Pattani Governor Weeranan Pengchan, went to Pattani Hospital to encourage other people injured in the blast as well as their families and to pass on condolences to the family of the dead woman.
