‘Ying Kai’ pleads not guilty

High-society figure Monta “Ying Kai” Yokratanakan yesterday pleaded not guilty to human-trafficking charges in relation to allegedly luring three young women to work long hours as housemaids without salaries or days off.

Monta, 59, made her initial plea during a court session in which the judge went over the evidence before setting May 2 and May 3 of next year as the first days for prosecution witnesses to be heard.
Monta will face another court session on November 21 for her alleged violation of the Criminal Code’s Article 112 lese majeste charge by claiming to be a Khunying , or “Lady”, between 2012 and 2013. She denies the charge.
On August 22, investigators submitted a 200-page report on Monta’s alleged filing of a false complaint of theft against former maid Prapawan Jaikla, which brought Monta’s alleged wrongdoings into the spotlight.
