Nithit Tipkam, 35, employee of Mae Fah Luang Foundation, a royal non-profit organisation
“I glad to be witnessing this historic moment when the country gets to see King Rama X. Our country will change in a positive way under the new reign. Since I have been working closely with the Royal Foundation for five years, and worked at the shop [owned by the foundation] in front of the Grand Palace, I have caught sight of many members of the Royal Family. The Crown Prince is charismatic, and I feel connected and grateful to all kings of Thailand, including the new King.”

Ratikharn Sirisarnsombut, 58, owner of a 20-year-old shop selling Buddha images opposite the Grand Palace
“Today is auspicious as thousands of people clean Sanam Luang as a tribute to the late King and to welcome the new King. Since I have been near the Grand Palace for the last two decades, I have had a chance to welcome the Crown Prince many times. I have seen how charismatic he is.”
Kinpong Sakulpichairat, 70, Bangkok resident whose house is opposite the Grand Palace
“The Crown Prince has accompanied His Majesty the Late King for years, so he will follow in his father’s footsteps. The country will not change that much following the new reign because the people still love and respect the monarchy as before.”
Aimon Jaratchotikul, 61, Nakhon Ratchasima resident
“ The [monarchical] institution is one of the three pillars of Thailand and it will last long. I will be a servant under all of Thailand’s Kings’ feet in all future lives.
