Royal flag raised at Ambhorn Sathan Villa

Royal flag raised at Ambhorn Sathan Villa

The Royal Standard of the King of Thailand was raised at Ambhorn Sathan Villa, in Dusit Palace, at 8am Friday after HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun accepted the invitation to ascend the Throne.

The yellow plain square flag with a dancing red Garuda in the centre or “Thong Maharaj” is the official flag of the King of Thailand.
The standard is usually hoisted at the King’s palace of residence and on sea or land vehicles and is an emblem on the side of the royal aircraft.
It is also used on ceremonial occasions and official business by the King. Use of the standard is reserved exclusively for the monarchy and it is not commonly seen.
The standard was adopted in its present form in 1910 under King Vajiravudh (Rama VI).
