Former assistant Army chief Gen Kampanat appointed new privy councillor

Gen Kampanat Ruddit, a former assistant Army chief and former National Legislative Assembly member, was appointed as a new privy councillor Saturday, raising the number of the Privy Council members to 14.

Kampanat Thursday resigned as a member of National Legislative Assembly.

He used to be appointed as director of the National Council for Peace and Order's Centre for Reconciliation for Reform.

The interim charter allow the King to appoint 18 privy councillors plus the Privy Council president.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has earlier appointed Gen Prem Tinsulanonda as the Privy Council President.

His Majesty also also appointed 12 other privy councillors as following: Wirat Chinvinijkul, Jaranthada Karnasuta, General Surayud Chulanont, Kasem Watanachai, Palakorn Suwanrath, Atthaniti Disatha-amnarj, Supachai Poo-ngam, Chanchai Likhitjitta, Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk, General Dapong Ratanasuwan, General Teerachai Nakwanich and General Paiboon Koomchaya.

Kampanat, Wirat, Jaranthada, former education minister General Dapong, former Army chief General Teerachai and former justice minister General Paiboon are first-time appointed members of the Privy Council while the other eight, including Prem, were Privy Councillors under the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and were reappointed.
