Tourist spending is expected to rise by 5.7 per cent

Tourist spending is expected to rise by 5.7 per cent year on year to Bt62.3 billion during the New Year period spanning from Thursday to January 4, said Kasikorn Research Centre.

The number of foreign tourists is projected to rise 1.3 per cent year on year, fuelling a 3.7-per-cent increase in spending by this segment to Bt38.3 billion, the research house said.
KResearch said December might see slower growth in the number of foreign tourists compared with the same month a year ago, given a sharp drop in Chinese arrivals after the Chinese and Thai governments’ recent clampdown on zero-dollar tours.
Within the country, KResearch expects an 8.6-per-cent rise in the number of Thais travelling during the holiday, with an estimated 9.1-per-cent increase in their spending to about Bt24 billion.
