120 free Wi-Fi hotspots launched in Phuket

CAT Telecom Plc and other government agencies joined hands with local private sector to launch 120 free Wi-Fi hotspots at the popular Patong beach and Phuket downtown Thursday as a New Year present for tourists.

Surapant Meknavin, a member of CAT’s board of directors, said 80 hotspots have been installed on Thaweewong and Rat-uthit 200 Years Road in Patont beach town and 40 mores at the Saphan Hin Park and in Phuket’s Mueang municipality.
He said more free Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed in the island-province next year to raise the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots to 1,000 to serve the province’s plan to make it a smart city. The plan will need a budget of Bt240 million to fully implement, he added.
He said CAT has been asked by the Phuket governor to install free Wi-Fi facilities as New Year present for local people and tourists.
