Giant pumps used to drain floodwater at historic Surat Thai wat

Surat Thani province used five giant pumps in a bid to accelerate draining water at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, where the flood level was as high as 80 centimetres on Friday.

The authorities used the pumps to try to divert floodwater from the historic site and out to sea through Klong Chaiya.
According to the Surat Thani governor, the flood situation was improving but officials still needed to closely monitor two districts, Chaiya and Tha Chana, areas vulnerable to landslides and fresh flooding.
In Chaiya, the business area and government offices were still inundated on Friday, with the flood level measuring between 30-80 centimetres, while the water reached neck height at the prison in the district although there was no need to evacuate prisoners.
