NMG channels win two Amnesty awards for human rights reporting

NMG channels win two Amnesty awards for human rights reporting

TWO DIGITAL television channels under Nation Multimedia Group (NMG) yesterday won Amnesty International Media Awards for excellence in human rights reporting.

NOW26 channel was honoured with an “outstanding” award for “Inside Baan Phue’s necklace case and its living witness” report on “Pi Gud Khao Lhao Kwam Jing”. The channel received a plaque and a Bt30,000 prize.
Nation TV won an honourable mention for “Children of the deep south … wounds from the violence” and received a plaque and a Bt10,000 prize.
The Nation is part of NMG.
Pakorn Puengnetr, NOW26’s political and crime news editor who was in charge of the programme, said the award showed the difference between media professionals and social media at a time when the public tended to consume news online rather than from traditional media.
“It proves that hard work can create good, quality stories for society. The award will encourage news teams to work harder and uphold social values,” he said.
Pornpen Khongkachonkiet, chair of Amnesty International Thailand, said the event was organised out of respect for the role of the media in observing human rights principles and creating awareness of human rights in society.
The event honoured and supported the media by presenting awards for work that protects and respects people and also promotes human rights, while encouraging the media to continue presenting stories relating to human rights and universal human values, Pornpen said.
