HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn conferred highest civilian award from Indian govt

The Government of India has announced conferment of ‘Padma Bhushan’ Award, one of India’s highest Civilian Awards, on Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day of India on Thursday.

The Indian government announced in a press statement that the princess is conferred the award for her contribution in the field of literature and education. The ‘Padma Bhushan’, is awarded for distinguished service of high order.
The statement said Her Royal Highness is the only foreign recipient of the Award this year. 
Earlier, in the last 35 years about 35 foreigners have been conferred with ‘Padma Bhushan’.  The award is conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at President House in New Delhi usually around March or April every year.
Her Royal Highness is also recipient of Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development (2004) and first World Sanskrit Award (2016) awarded by India.
