More anti coal-fired power plant protesters arrested

Two more prominent members of anti coal-fired power plant protesters were arrested this afternoon, while the three protest leaders already captured this morning were detained at Military Circle 11 and were forbidden to meet with their lawyers or their relatives.

Banjong Nasae and Thatchapong Kaedam were the latest two protesters arrested by police and were taken to the unknown location, while there were around 10 protesters still trapped inside Office of Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) without any food or water.

As of 3 pm, eight more protesters were also arrested at the Patrol and Special Operation Division.

Supaporn Malailoi, a representative of the protesters, informed that two prominent members were arrested by the police at around 1 pm. He said by far officers have yet to inform the whereabouts of the  arrested persons.

He said protesters were negotiating with the police not to arrest around 10 protesters inside the OPDC office and let them out of the surrounded compound.

Supaporn also addressed that three leaders of the protest  -- Prasitchai Nu-nuan, Akkaradej Chakchinda, and ML Rungkun Kitiyakara – were kept at Military Circle 11 for interrogation. Their phones have been seized and they were denied to see their lawyers or their relatives.

“Right now their lawyers have arrived at Military Circle 11, but they were denied to meet with their clients,” she said.

“We urge the authorities to respect the people’s rights. When they are arrested, they have to be accompanied by their lawyers. Moreover, all citizen have the rights to protest peacefully to protect the environment.”
