Pheu Thai to join reconciliation talks on March 8

Pheu Thai Party will join the government initiated reconciliation talks on March 8, willing to discuss all matters except the 20-year national strategy plan.

The party’s acting secretary general Phumtham Wechayachai said on Teusday the party agreed that society needs reconciliation, and open discussions on the issue would help bring fruitful results.
However, the government should assure to the public that reconciliation is taking place now. It should also be sincere and ready to accept different views.

At press time, it could not be confirmed whether Yingluck Shinawatra would join the talks.

Chusak Sirinil, head of the legal department of the party, said that the party initially had six points to propose in the talk. Firstly, the government must be non-partisan and independent.

Secondly, the truth must be revealed and those affected must receive proper compensation.

Thirdly, the government should not limit the talks, including the amnesty matter.

More importantly, the government must not create a new round of conflicts.

The results of the reconciliation talks should be agreement between the conflicting parties and all the people. The government should not enforce a law to bind everyone, the party proposed.

Also, it called on the government to show sincerity by creating friendly atmosphere for reconciliation and tolerating different opinions.

The 10 party members to represent Pheu Thai in the reconciliation talks are Viroj Pao-in, Plodprasop Suraswadi, Phumtham Wechayachai, Noppadon Pattama, Chaikasem Nitisiri, Phokin Palakul, Muhamad Nor Mata, and Chaturon Chaisang.
