Myanmar govt staff asked to cut Thingyan holiday

The Myanmar government has asked ministries and state organisations to reduce the Thingyan water festival holiday.

The long holiday caused inconvenience for business, money transfer services, international trade and public transport, said Zaw Htay, the President’s Office spokesman.

The planned break of April 12 to 21 will be cut to April 13 to 17 if approved.

“We also asked the government departments to reduced holidays for the Thadingyut and Tazaungtine festivals and to take international holidays as a replacement,” said Zaw Htay.
