Chiang Mai student wins Junior Dublin Literary Award

A CHIANG MAI student has beaten more than 1,000 candidates to win the 12th Junior Dublin Literary Awards for Thailand for essay writing.

Kathrin Khanchanok Kemmler will now fly to Dublin to attend the International Dublin Literary Award 2017 presentation ceremony and receive a two-week English-language course.
“I couldn’t believe that I have indeed won,” Kathrin said. “To all students who are thinking about whether to join the contest, I encourage them to have a go at this.”
Held annually, the Junior Dublin Literary Awards contest involves English-language essays and this year contestants wrote under a theme of “Journey”.
Kathrin said “being creative and original” were the main attributes for a good essay.
Studying at the Lanna International School in Chiang Mai province, Kathrin emerged as the regional winner for the North before also being declared national winner last Friday.
Prim Beckers Kasemsant from Concordian International School took the top award for the Bangkok/Central region.
The winner of the northeastern region was Passakorn Srivasitapakorn from Khon Kaen Wittayayon School.
For the southern region, the best writer was Tanchanok Pongthongmuang, who received a merit award.
The Annual Junior Dublin Literary Awards for Thailand is jointly organised by The Nation, NJ magazine, and strategic partners; the Phuket Gazette and City Life Chiang Mai; with support from the Embassy of Ireland, OCS international facilities service, Kerry Group, Ireland’s Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and Emirates Airline.
