Yingluck wary while Korn ready to face govt’s tax probe

Politicians offered mixed reactions to the government’s move to collect back taxes from 60 politicians who served in the governments of Abhisit Vejjajiva and Yinluck Shinawatra.

The Auditor-General has accused them of not paying taxes fully and has demanded the Revenue Department investigate and punish those who had broken the tax law.
Former premier Yingluck raised questions about fair treatment while former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij said he was ready to subject himself to probe regarding his tax returns. “Let the tax officials do their jobs. I’m not worried,” said Korn.
Korn has been criticised for not making enough efforts during his term as finance minister to collect back taxes of more than Bt10 billion from former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The Auditor-General had investigated the tax returns of 113 politicians and found that 60 of them, whose wealth increased after their term in office ended, might not have fully discharged their tax liability.
