NLA to vote on Surapong impeachment

The National Legislative Assembly will on Thursday vote on whether to impeach Pheu Thai’s former foreign minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul.

He was accused by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of malfeasant for reissuing two cancelled passports for ousted ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Thaksin has been living in exile since 2008 after fleeing the country following a court ruling against him for abusing his power to benefit his family in the Ratchda land deal controversy.
His two passports were revoked during the Abhisit government, but Surapong returned them to him – arguing Thaksin was not a threat to the country as claimed.
