Second round of registration opening for low-income subsidies

Second round of registration opening for low-income subsidies

Low-income earners’ second round of registration for government subsidies will be launched on Monday.

People who are eligible must be Thai citizens, 18 years old and older, and unemployed or have received a yearly salary of less than Bt100,000 in 2016. They must not have substantial financial assets or own a home on land larger than 25 square wa (100 square metres), a condominium larger than 35 square meters, or land larger than one rai (0.16 hectares). Farmers cannot own more than 10 rai of land.
Eligible citizens must register in the second round regardless of whether they registered in the first round late last year, with authorities urging people to re-register to ensure their data profile was up to date.
Registration will be open until May 15 at Krungthai Bank, the Government Savings Bank and the Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives Bank as well as at provincial comptroller offices and Bangkok district offices.
After registering, low-income earners will receive an ID card that they can present to authorities to receive privileges from the subsidy scheme.
The list of all eligible citizens will be accessible at epayment.go.th and at the offices of subdistrict leaders. If people are not on the roles, they can contact banks or offices where they registered to receive ID cards.
The eligibility criteria were to ensure the government was reaching the right people, said government Spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd on Sunday.
Nearly 8.4 million people were registered last year, Sansern said, adding that 7.7 million had been determined to be eligible, 97.5 per cent of whom had already received subsidies. The rest did not receive subsidies because they did not have a bank account or the failed to contact officials, he said.
