Two officers removed from posts over death of soldier
Two military officers were removed from their posts and an investigation committee set up to look into the case of a conscript who was allegedly beaten to death at a Surat Thani Army Base.
Maj-General Wichai Thassanamontian, commander of Military Circle 45, ordered the two officers allegedly involved in the torture of Private Yuthinan Boonniam, which led to his death, to be removed from their positions at Military Circle 45 to facilitate a proper investigation.
Wichai also ordered the setting up of a committee to investigate the death of Private Yuthinan.
Meanwhile, the mother of Private Yuthinan Renu Mhodrakee stated that the family was sure her son’s death was a result of torture in the military base. She said she would not cremate the body until the case was concluded.
