NLA to deliberate draft bills on national strategy and reforms

NLA to deliberate draft bills on national strategy and reforms

The National Legislative Assembly has received the draft bills of a national strategy and of reforms from the government and will begin deliberating them on Thursday next week, NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said on Tuesday.

The NLA president insisted that the two bills were not meant to help prolong the junta’s power as has been alleged.
The two bills marked a first for Thailand, he said, as the country’s reforms and national strategy would be addressed in the supreme law of the constitution and enforced.
The national strategy would last 20 years, whereas the reform law would address changes in prime sectors including education and justice.
Pornpetch said the two bills should sail through the first reading. A law-vetting committee would be set up to examine the draft contents and meet the deadline specified under the charter, which is within 120 days or four months after the charter promulgation.
Next week, the NLA would also deliberate the first two organic laws essential for the expected election next year.
These are the political party and the Election Commission draft bills that the NLA hopes to finish deliberating within 60 days.
