Watana drops inquiry about missing plaque after speaking to police

Former Pheu Thai MP Watana Muangsook said on Thursday after reporting to the Royal Police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division that he would stop pursuing the case concerning the missing historical plaque. He did not elaborate about his reasons.

The plaque commemorating the Siamese Revolution was recently replaced at the Royal Plaza by unknown parties.
Deputy national police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said on Wednesday that the division would file a complaint against Watana for his posts regarding the plaque, which he said could be misleading as they invited the public to help reclaim it. The posts could also be deemed as instigating unrest, which was equivalent to sedition, Srivara had said.
Watana on Thursday reported to police before he was summoned. He said he had explained his intentions regarding the posts to the police, who asked him to produce a report on his intentions and submit it to them within 30 days. He has not yet been charged.
Watana said he had just expressed his opinions. People in power may believe the plaque does not qualify as a historical object, he said, but the truth of that assertion could not be definitively determined.
