Last tamarind trees removed ahead of Royal cremation

Last tamarind trees removed ahead of Royal cremation

The last batch of tamarind trees has been removed from around Sanam Luang to pave the way for the Royal funeral of the late HM King Rama IX.

A team from Nong Nuch Tropical Botanical Garden removed 15 trees from the Supreme Court headquarters side and 15 more from the Thammasat University side.
They will be treated at a nursery in Nakhon Nayok and Pathum Thani provinces.
Kampon Tansajja, the manager of the botanical garden, said the tamarinds were trimmed to allow them to grow new branches and to facilitate the move.
The trees were measured, photographed and documented with the removal process proceeding gradually since February to ensure that the trees remained strong enough for the journey. Previously 14 trees were removed and transported to Saraburi province.
After the Royal funeral scheduled in October, the trees will be brought back to Sanam Luang.
