Students in ceremony to show respect to 295 Ajarn Yai

Students of Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Medicine and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation hosted a ceremony on Wednesday to show their respect and place 295 human cadavers – which Thai medical students would refer to as Ajarn Yai (great teachers) – in coffins at the university's Padtayapatana Building in Bangkok.

The ceremony was held ahead of the royal cremation rites for the cadavers at 25 temples on Sunday.
The ceremony is conducted annually to mark the end of the academic year and allow second-year medical students who learned anatomic dissection to express their respects and gratitude to those who donated their bodies for education.
After the ceremony the cadavers would be moved to 25 temples across the city for the special royal cremation on Sunday. Another ceremony to collect their bones and ashes would be held on May 6.
