American man found dead in suspected suicide
A 69-year-old American retiree was found dead in the Chon Buri province house he had shared with his Thai wife, in what is being treated as a suicide.
Smaporn Britland, 46, told police that she returned from working at her restaurant on Monday morning to find the body of her husband, Raymond Charles Britland, under the shower.
He had a slashed left wrist.
She called police and her son, who she said was not at home when she discovered the body.
Police have ruled out foul play.
The body was sent for an autopsy at the Police Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Institute.
Samaporn told police she had been married to Britland for 18 years.
She said Britland used to work for the US Army’s Engineering Corps and came to live in Thailand after his retirement.
She said he had suffered from chronic aliments and had been receiving treatment at Pattaya International Hospital.
He did not want to burden her with medical costs, she said.
