Royal funeral chariots transferred to Fine Arts Department

Royal funeral chariots transferred to Fine Arts Department

Royal Thai Army Ordnance Division director Lt-General Awut Aemwong presided over a ceremony today to hand over two Royal funeral chariots to the Fine Arts Department for final design touches.

Awut and Fine Arts Department chief Anan Chuchote also placed flower wreaths on the two chariots, one of which will be used to transport the Royal Urn during the funeral ceremony for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej while the other will remain in reserve.
The chariot decorations will be completed by September in time for the Royal funeral procession in October, Anan said.
The newly-constructed chariots are comprised of a front section that was designed in a fashion similar to a traditional munitions cart, while the back section was designed using the frame and parts of an artillery cannon.
Research into the chariot construction started last December while the actual construction then took place at the Suranaree Army Camp’s ordnance factory in January. The next task for the Ordnance Division was to repair and maintain other chariots that will also be included in the Royal funeral procession.
