Naresuan University develops phone app for cleft-lip healthcare

Phitsanulok’s Naresuan University (NU) has developed a smartphone application called “Thai Cleft Care” for families with children who are born with cleft lips and palates.

The application, which is called the “world’s first” of its type, allows doctors and parents to communicate to improve the care of children with orofacial clefts by recording data and reminding parents about medical appointments.
There is also a program to record and follow treatment progress and emergency incidents so doctors can continuously follow up on treatment results and provide parents with accurate medical information, said Naresuan University Cleft and Craniofacial Centre (NUCCC) director Dr Saran Worasakwutthipong.
The application also provides a list of medical facilities in Thailand that can provide advanced treatment for the condition.
Doctors can also interact with parents in real time to increase participation in their children’s healthcare compared to conventional treatment methods, Saran added.
The application, which is compatible with iOS and Android, is a collaboration between the NUCCC and NU’s Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry.
A trial version can be downloaded from Google Play or App Store. For more information, contact the university during office hours at 05596 5596 or visit http://www.nuccc.nu.ac.th/.
