Nan raid targets illegal logging, arrests two

Nan provincial Governor Paisal Wimonrat has dispatched 200 police and Army officers as well as administrative officials to search five villages in tambon Yab Hua Na of Nan’s Wiang Sa district on Wednesday morning on suspicion of illegal logging.

A report from Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) Nan branch deputy chief Colonel Rusamontri Jinnasen stated that residents in the five villages, particularly Ban Naka Moo 1, had encroached on the Nam Yao and Nam Suad forest conservation areas to cut down trees.
In response, Paisal in his capacity as Isoc’s Nan branch chief had officers search the villages for evidence.
At Ban Naka they found 500 wooden planks and many 12-metre-long logs hidden in a wooded area, arrested two suspects, Anek Saenhan and Jiradech Hantrakul-ngern, and seized two unregistered guns, 15 “yaba” pills and a chainsaw.
