Electricity authority to claim compensation over damage caused by falling tree

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) may claim damages from the owner of Alma Link Building on Chidlom Road in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district over an incident on Saturday when a large tree grown within the building compound fell, pulling down power lines and toppling seven concrete power poles.

One of the poles fell on a passing motorcyclist, killing a 25-year-old woman. The tree, besides damaging the poles and wires, also damaged the MEA office’s large LED screen while the toppled poles also damaged several vehicles and injured at least two other people.
MEA deputy governor Theerawat Thep-amnuaysuk on Sunday offered his condolences to the family of the deceased, Natchapat Somjet. The MEA has provided initial assistance of Bt20,000 to Natchapat’s family and would host funeral prayers for her at Wat Kaewfa Chuamanee in Dusit district on Sunday night.
