Disgruntled nurses warned not to protest government moves on status

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday shrugged off criticism from some nurses towards the government’s latest measure to boost their job security and welfare.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet approved a plan to give civil-servant status to all nurses now working at state hospitals either as employees or temporary employees within three years.
“I believe most nurses are understanding,” Prayut said on Wednesday, downplaying dissatisfaction of some nurses that the government has still fallen short of giving 10,992 employee/temporary employee nurses civil servant status this year.
Prayut urged unhappy nurses to stop trying to trigger a conflict, saying that his government had already done its best.
“If you try to protest this, we may not be able to recruit any nurse as civil servants,” he said.
