NRSA studies cybersecurity in context of controversial draft bill

NRSA studies cybersecurity in context of controversial draft bill

The National Reform Steering Assembly’s (NRSA) media reform committee plans to propose a study of cyber-security protection and IT infrastructure during a meeting next Tuesday in the context of the cyber-security bill that is being drafted.

The study is meant to support the establishment of cybersecurity protection agencies and encourage measures to cope with critical cyber threats, the NRSA whips spokesman Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said yesterday.
ACM Kanit Suwannet, the committee’s chairman, added that collaboration between government and the private sector was necessary to create information sharing and early warning systems. The proposal would also address the long-term development of human resources, he said.
The measures would all be addressed in the draft cybersecurity law, which the NRSA will deliberate in the near future, Kanit said.
The draft legislation, which is ostensibly intended to address cyber threats, has raised concerns because it could empower a national cybersecurity committee headed by prime minister, which critics have said would give authorities power to control and interfere with the Internet.
