NCPO foregoes bomb discussion

Speculation to the contrary, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) did not discuss the Phramongkutklao Hospital bombing at its meeting on Tuesday.

The bomb attack at the Bangkok military hospital the previous day left at least 25 people injured.
Army chief and NCPO secretary Gen Chalermchai Sittisart said Prime Minister and NCPO head Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha merely ordered tighter security in public areas. There was no further discussion of the incident, Chalermchai said.
Elsewhere, Deputy Defence Minister Gen Udomdej Sitabutr said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan had ordered the bombing investigation accelerated, and Prayut had expressed concern over the incident.
“It’s possible that [the bombing] might be related to previous incidents, but we need to see additional evidence first,” Udomdej said.
Udomdej declined to comment on Prawit’s health after the deputy premier excused himself from Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting early.
