Reconciliation ‘social contract’ to be completed by June 15, says panel chief

The government’s so-called “social contract” to pave the way for reconciliation will be completed by June 15, Army chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart, who heads the reconciliation committee’s sub-panel on developing the document, said on Tuesday.

Chalermchai said his sub-panel had been developing the document based on the synthesised views submitted by another committee.
When the work on it is completed, the document will be forwarded to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, who chairs the main reconciliation committee, before being submitted to the supreme committee on reform, reconciliation and national strategy – chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha – for approval.
Public hearings will also be held so that people can learn about it, the Army chief said.
Meanwhile, the public will be invited from next Monday onwards to share their opinions on the premier’s four questions asking their views in regard to the coming general election.
The inputs will be processed and submitted to the prime minister every 10 days, Government Spokesperson Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.
No deadline has yet been set for gauging public opinion on the matters raised by the PM, he added.
