Thai brands showcasing in Vientiane

VIENTIANE - The second annual “Top Thai Brands” fair began on Wednesday featuring products as well as services from Thailand at the Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre (Lao-ITECC) in Vientiane.

The five-day event was organised by the International Trade Promotion Department of the Thai Ministry of Commerce together with the Trade Promotion and Production Development Department under the Laotian Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Laos’ deputy minister of industry and commerce, Phanthong Phitthoumma, and Thai Ambassador to Laos Noppadon Theppitak were present at the opening ceremony.
More than 192 booths from Thailand and 20 from Laos are displaying the two countries’ high-quality products and services ranging from building materials to household items, electronic appliances, foods and beverages, garments and fashion accessories, as well as healthcare items.
Thai Minister Counsellor Yanee Srimeechai said the International Trade Promotion Department had worked in close cooperation with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries and Thai National Shippers’ Council to select the top businesses and top-quality products to present at the trade fair.
This year’s fair aims not only to promote trade and investment between Thailand and Laos in terms of both volume and value along with the promotion of strong business networking, but also encourages consumer demand for good-quality products and services with their original trademarks.
This is to motivate and offer opportunities to both countries to step further together towards globalisation.
Laos and Thailand have a long tradition of cooperation. Thailand remains the main trading partner of Laos, with trade and investment having increased over the last few years.
Major exports from Laos to Thailand include electricity, copper, tobacco, vegetables and minerals.
Laos, in turn, imports fuel, vehicles, electronic items and machinery from Thailand. Exports from Laos to Thailand were valued at US$2 billion (Bt68 billion) last year, while imports were $2.59 billion, according to the Laotian Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Yanee said that besides the trade show this year’s fair would also feature various special activities over the five-day period. There will be a presentation of projects initiated by His Majesty the King, Thailand’s Trust Mart Zone, Top Thai Brands Zone, and seminars from VIP speakers and Thai artists who have succeeded in running overseas businesses.
