Documents prepared to extradite jet-setting Vorayuth

Authorities are determined to extradite Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya before some charges related to his fatal hit-and-run charges expire on September 3 under the statute of limitations.

The jet-setting suspect fled overseas days before he was scheduled to report to prosecutors to be formally charged in court in April.
Last month, the Thai government cancelled his passport in a bid to pressure him to return to Thailand to face legal proceedings.
The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) has now set up a committee to bring Vorayuth to justice.
Its chairman Amnart Chotechain said yesterday that public prosecutors had already prepared English-language documents, such as an arrest warrant and a prosecution order, against Vorayuth for an extradition request.
“Police are responsible for specifying his address overseas,” he said.
Office of the Attorney-General deputy spokesman Prayut Bejraguna said prosecutors and police were actively pursuing the case, indicating they were serious about bringing Vorayuth to justice.
Vorayuth’s Ferrari hit and killed a policeman in Bangkok in September, 2012.
The statute of limitation has since expired for the initial charges of speeding and reckless driving causing property damage.
But he still stands accused of reckless driving resulting in death, which has a 15-year statute of limitation, that ends in September 2027, and failing to stop to assist a victim, that will expire under the statute of limitations on September 3 this year.
If convicted of reckless driving causing death, he will be liable to a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of Bt20,000.
If convicted of failing to help his victim, he will face six months in jail and/or a fine of between Bt5,000 and Bt20,000.
