Protesters in Khon Kaen block public hearing on health security bill

Protesters blocked the third public hearing on the National Health Security Bill in Khon Kaen in an effort to stop the activity and protest the bill.

More than 200 activists took over the venue of the third public hearing at the Avani Khon Kaen Hotel and Convention Centre on Saturday morning to oppose the bill, as a result the event had to be cancelled.
Shortly after Poldej Pinprateeb, the head of the subcommittee for the public hearing, briefed the attendees about the purpose of the hearing, activists from all over northeastern region stepped on to the stage and displayed banners protesting against the hearing.
The protesters stressed that they were unhappy over the manner in which the hearing was arranged and that people did not have a fair chance to speak up their concerns.
As the protest continued, the subcommittee decided to cancel the event.
Earlier, public hearings in Songkhla on June 12 and in Chiang Mai on June 13 also had to be cancelled, as the delegates walked out. The last public hearing is slated to be held in Bangkok on Sunday.
